Hey, embroidery enthusiasts! I'm back with another In The Hoop (ITH) project and tutorial! One of my favorite summertime activities is enjoying a country music concert outdoors. So in honor of my favorite summer activity, I am going to show you step-by-step how to create this Cowboy Boot Key Fob. These little boots make the PERFECT gift for a friend, or for yourself! Use my FREE pattern to create this quick and easy little project! So let's gather our supplies, and get started on this In the Hoop (ITH) Cowboy Boot Key Fob embroidery project!
Supplies You Will Need:
An embroidery machine
One sheet of tear-away backing
2 squares of faux leather in whatever color you choose.
1 swivel hook with D-ring (.5" D-ring)
1 Double-Cap rivet (8mm x 6mm)
Painter's tape
Scissors
Step 1 - Download Your Design
Access your design files below to download the Cowboy Boot Key Fob design and save it to your USB drive. This design will fit in a 4x4 hoop. The link below includes one zipped folder with the design in the following file types: JEF, PES, VP3, HUS, XXX, EXP and DST.
Here is a video of how the design will stitch:
Step 2 - Load the Design
Load the design into your machine using your USB drive.
Step 3 - Hoop Your Materials
We are going to hoop one piece of faux leather on top of your sheet of tear-away backing. Make sure there are no wrinkles in your faux-leather.
Step 4 - Stitch Your Boots
We are ready to sew. First, we will stitch the boot design. This design is two colors and will stop before we stitch the offset running stitch, giving us a chance to place our back piece of faux leather.
Step 5 - Place Your Back Piece of Faux Leather
Remove your hoop from the embroidery machine and turn it over. Trim your second piece of faux leather to cover the back of the design, using the painter's tape to secure the edges. I like to use painter's tape instead of masking tape because it doesn't leave any residue, but masking tape will also work.
Step 6 - Stitch the Offset Running Stitch
Place the frame back onto your embroidery machine and continue stitching. The design will finish by stitching an offset running stitch. I chose to stitch in hot pink, but you could also stitch to match the color of your faux leather.
Step 7 - Remove Design from Hoop
Remove your design from the embroidery machine and remove the faux leather layers from the hoop.
Step 8 - Remove Tear-Away
Remove the excess tear away stabilizer from in-between your faux leather layers.
Step 9 - Trim Your Design
Using a pair of sharp scissors, trim around your offset running stitch a few millimeters outside the stitches.
Step 10 - Punch Your Holes
Fold your faux leather tab in half. Using a sharp object, such as a pair of appliqué scissors, punch a hole all the way through both layers of the faux leather. You may need to twist to get the hole large enough to accommodate the rivet.
Step 11 - Fasten the Tab with Your Rivet
Push the rivet through both layers of faux leather and fasten with the rivet cap.
And there you have it! Grab your keys and head out the door for your favorite summertime activity. I hope you enjoyed this project!
Happy Stitching!
